Power over Ethernet (POE) and Power over Ethernet Plus (POE+) are two different technologies that allow devices to be powered by an Ethernet cable. Both POE and POE+ transmit power and data over the same cable. The main difference between POE and POE+ is the amount of power that can be transmitted. POE+ can transmit up to twice as much power as POE. This makes POE+ ideal for devices that require more power.
Usually, standard IP cameras work fine with regular POE. However, if you have a PTZ camera or an IP camera with a built-in heater or blower, then POE+ is recommended. In general, any device that requires more than 15 watts of power should use POE+.
To take advantage of POE technology, you will need to use a POE switch. If you need POE+, a switch that supports POE+ will be required. Another option is to use a POE injector. This is a device that can be used with any switch, and it will supply power to the devices connected to it.
